Coach Kathy Taylor’s career spans more than three decades across multiple programs and competitive levels. During that time, she was never accused of abusive coaching until disputes arose during her tenure at Colgate University, following roster decisions and program culture changes common to leadership transitions in Division I athletics.
In 2022, Colgate University conducted a comprehensive third-party investigation that included more than thirty interviews. The university concluded that Coach Taylor should remain as head coach and publicly stated its intent to continue forward with her leadership. She was not named as a defendant in the subsequent lawsuit filed against the university.
While litigation involving collegiate athletic programs can generate one-sided narratives, Coach Taylor’s professional record, institutional evaluations, and the volume of player testimonials provide essential context. Coaching at the Division I level requires difficult decisions, clear standards, and accountability. Demanding coaching is not synonymous with abuse, and discomfort associated with competitive athletics is not evidence of wrongdoing.
Coach Taylor has consistently maintained that she coached within established athletic, medical, and institutional protocols and that her focus remained on athlete development and team performance.
Women’s lacrosse is a physically demanding, fast-paced sport that carries inherent risks of injury, particularly at the collegiate level. Athletes who compete at Division I programs understand the intensity, expectations, and physical demands required to perform at that level.
Scholarships in non-revenue sports like lacrosse are highly competitive, often representing years of preparation, travel, and personal sacrifice. Coaching transitions, roster evaluations, and increased standards are routine components of collegiate athletics and are not unique to any single program or coach.
Coach Kathy Taylor was hired at multiple institutions specifically to raise competitive standards and build championship-caliber teams. Her results reflect that mandate.
